2016 Lexus ES 350 vs 2016 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

2016 Lexus ES 350 vs. 2016 Mercedes-Benz C300 Comparison

Class and sophistication define the midsize sedan offerings from Lexus and Mercedes in 2016. The Lexus ES 350 and Mercedes C-Class are among the top-selling models offered by each brand. Both are known for their impressive interior, precision handling and high safety ratings. But there are differences as well. Let’s dive in to what differentiates them.

Interior & Design

2016 Lexus ES Interior & Design 2016 Mercedes C300 Interior Seating

Built with first-rate materials, the interior of the 2016 ES is not only stylish and comfortable, but features plenty of head room and leg room in the front and back seats. The roominess doesn’t stop there, as the ES has 15.2 cubic feet of trunk space. The  Lexus designers that created this year’s ES focused not only on aerodynamics, stability and torque, but also on fine art and sculpture, which is apparent in the interior and exterior craftsmanship of the 2016 ES 350. Mercedes-Benz also redesigned their luxury sedan this year, making them wider, larger and more posh than previous C-Class sedans. The 2016 Mercedes-Benz C-Class has many features that have solidified its position as one of the brand leaders, and certainly does not disappoint. Even though this year’s C-Class is slightly larger, it still lacks the roominess both in the cabin (especially in the back seat) and the trunk that the ES has. There is no doubt that both sedans define luxury, but the attention to detail, comfort and convenience of the 2016 Lexus ES 350 cannot be overlooked.

Technology & Safety

The 2016 ES 350 features a 7-inch display screen that hosts your rearview camera that comes standard, along with the Lexus Enform app suite for all of your infotainment needs. A power moon roof, push-button start, USB port, Bluetooth, satellite radio, and Siri iPhone integration are just a few of the other convenient amenities found on the ES. Named an IIHS Top Safety Pick+, the 2016 ES is one of the safer sedans on the road with its standard features. A host of optional, upgraded safety features make the ES 350 one advanced sedan.  Similarly, every C-Class vehicle comes with a wide range of technological and safety features including Intelligent Drive, Collision Prevention Assist Plus and Attention Assist.  However, many drivers report that the COMAND infotainment system isn’t very user-friendly, and it lacks the IIHS safety designation received by the Lexus ES.

Performance

2016 Lexus ES 350 V6 Engine Performance 2016 Mercedes C-Class Engine

The 2016 ES 350 is equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 engine that puts out 268-horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Not only is it smooth and responsive, but it gives its drivers a surprising amount of power for a mid-size sedan. The V6 is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive that come standard.  Drivers and critics alike note its ride is exceptionally refined and composed. The 2016 Mercedes-Benz C-Class goes a different route with a 241-horsepower, turbocharged four cylinder that is paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission on all trim levels. Drivers report that the transmission is a bit unrefined, and the C-Class isn’t quite as agile as other vehicles in its class. That being said, both vehicles offer a pleasurable driving experience, though we prefer the smooth ride of the 2016 ES 350.
