Just like every component in a luxury Lexus vehicle, the headlights are cutting-edge and built to last. The standard HID bulbs, and LED alternatives, are extremely bright and durable. Let’s look at how long these bulbs last and when you’ll need to visit your local Lexus dealer for new headlights.

High Beams Falter

Modern Lexus headlights have separate bulbs for low and high-beam lighting. Both high-intensity discharge (HID) and light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs have long lifespans but don’t last forever. The first type of bulb to give out will often be one of your high-beam bulbs.

When this happens, you’ll have trouble seeing farther down the road and you’ll probably have slightly better lighting on one side of your car than the other. When you notice this, a bulb may have burnt out, the fuse might have blown, or the wiring might also have malfunctioned. If a new bulb doesn’t remedy the problem and the fuse appears to be fine, have a technician check the wiring.

Fading Light

LED and HID bulbs tend to dim a good deal before they finally fail, sometimes losing as much as 70% of their maximum brightness. Tungsten-halogen bulbs, on the other hand, don’t usually fade much and then suddenly fail all at once.

So, if your Lexus is using LED or HID bulbs, try to notice if your headlights are gradually losing strength and replace them early on.

Flickering Light

Various factors can cause flickering headlights. With tungsten-halogen bulbs, it’s often a broken or loosened filament.

With LED or HID bulbs, flickering is more likely to be caused by faulty wiring or unsteady voltage from the alternator. You can ask your technician to test the bulbs to diagnose the underlying problem.

Aging Bulbs

It’s a good idea to know the average lifespan of your headlight bulbs. That way you can predict when you’re likely to need replacements.

LED bulbs tend to last a long time, which may well reach the lifespan of your car, especially if you drive more during the day than at night.
